Lorelai's First Birthday 2010

May 2010
Well, I'm not gonna lie, I may have gone a tad overboard on Lorelai's one year birthday party! I think I threw her the party I was dreaming of.  Pink, pink and more Pink!  We decorated with shades of pink and green and themed it with owls.  We invited family and friends to celebrate Lorelai's special day.  The kids decorated cupcakes, made an owl craft and of course ate lots of sweets!  Happy Birthday miss Lorelai!

A Letter to my Lorelai from Mom:

Dear Lorelai,                                                                                                                    1 May 2010

My how the year has flown by!  I was so lucky to stay home from work and take care of you for the first 3 months of your life.  It was such a change to now have a little tiny baby around to take care of 24 hours a day.  My favorite spot was the rocking chair in your nursery.  I just loved being up with you in the wee hours of the morning nursing you and rocking you looking out the windows where the street lights shone in.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I was so tired!  I don’t think I had ever been that tired in my life only sleeping in 2-3 hour intervals for the first few months of your life while getting the hang of being a mother. But those quiet moments just rocking you and nursing you were probably my most favorite.  It was so quiet and I was lost in my thoughts of what the future held for us and how I never realized I could love a human being this month that I barely knew!

At the beginning of august I returned to work and will feel blessed forever that I was able to place you in the arms of one of my dearest friends to watch you while we were apart.  Christi Postoian took care of you while I was at work.  That first day I dropped you off to her and went back to work, I thought I would cry, but I didn’t because I knew you would be safe and loved by her.  As I am writing you this I cannot express the gratitude I will forever feel that I was blessed to have her take care of you.  You were, and are, loved by her as if her own. And her three daughters, KaiLee, MaKayla and Delani loved you like a sister!  They loved playing with you and did a great job helping take care of you.  I am so glad you were able to be around them.   While I was at work Christi would send me videos or pictures and it made my day so much brighter!  She was the PTO president at Promenade Elementary so she took you over to the school a lot and all the office ladies adored you!  It was like you had your own little world that I didn’t know about!

Dad and I took you on many adventures.  We just toted you around wherever we went.  You were such a happy baby, always smiling!  I loved being home with you while you played with toys and investigated all kinds of new things, seeing the world for the 1st time.  You started walking on your first birthday!  We had a big party for you at mom and dad’s first house at 4267 Carnegie Court in Riverside, California.  We invited so many people, friends from work, family and friends from church.  They all came!!  Everyone came to celebrate you turning a year!  It was such a cute party.  The kids made a little owl craft, we decorated cupcakes and had a candy/dessert buffet.  There were almost 50 people there!  We had sandwiches, veggies and fruit kabobs for lunch.  When we brought you your cake, which was in the shape of a huge cupcake made by our friend Liz Jergensen, you weren’t sure what to do with it!  You delicately touched the frosting and took a little taste!

The first year of your life whizzed by!  We celebrated your first Easter, Halloween (you were sweet pea and dad and mom were Popeye and olive oyl) first Thanksgiving at aunt Gina and uncle Branden’s house and first Christmas with all your grandparents and aunts and uncles! We also took you to Sea World, the beach numerous times, the mall, and numerous restaurants and friend’s houses.

You have brought and joy and love that I never realized I could feel until we had you in our life.  I love you so much!

Love, Mom
